A series of nearly 600 files, deposited from the office of the Vicar General in March 2017, relating to men and adolescents who either applied to be considered or were recommended as candidates for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Birmingham. None of them was ordained for the diocese, although some may have been subsequently ordained for other dioceses or religious orders. The majority of the files concern boys who expressed an interest in the priesthood or took the annual examination for a bursary to St Wilfrid's College, Cotton, Staffordshire, as ecclesiastical students, some of whom proceeded to major seminary.
